Hello! My name is Lindsey Harper and I am a senior at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. It doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was in elementary school. I had many wonderful elementary school teachers, who inspired me to become a teacher. Just to let you know a little bit about me, I am a graduate of Hanover County Public Schools. I attended Washington Henry, Chickahominy, and Atlee. I value the education I received, and now it is my turn to pass those wonderful experiences on to your child. I graduated from Atlee High School in 2005. I am currently a student at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. This May I will graduate with a major in psychology and a minor in elementary education. I believe my experiences at Randolph-Macon have been phenomenal. In January 2008 I studied in England with other students in the education department at Randolph-Macon. This course was a comparative education class, where I observed a variety of different schools and compared their schools to the schools we have in America. I believe the things I learned in England helped to broaden my knowledge as a future educator.This past January I took advantage of another wonderful experience. I completed an administrative internship with Mrs. Lenz. Through this internship I was able to learn about Washington Henry from another perspective. The experience I had gave me much insight about my journey as a future educator.I have been a member of the Randolph-Macon Student Virginia Education Association (SVEA) for three years. Last year I was the president of the organization, and this year I serve as the advising president. The SVEA has helped me gain experiences through volunteering at elementary schools, attending workshops and listening to guest speakers, and organizing events for students in the area. In addition to the wonderful experiences I have gained at Randolph-Macon, I have had additional experiences within the realm of education. In April 2006 I began substitute teaching in Hanover County Public Schools. Until now I have been substituting on my school breaks. I also have been tutoring for almost a year, both elementary and middle school students.I am very happy to be student teaching at Washington Henry. I am eager to learn about your child and the students in his or her class. I am anxious to begin working with Mrs. Shevenock and Mrs. Fisher.
